Vintage 10cc Model Ignition Four Stroke Gasoline Engine Hand starting and run.
A brief video showcases the startup of a 10cc homemade model gas engine, constructed from aluminum and bronze sand castings. The parts were machined using a South Bend lathe and a Sherline lathe for the smaller components. Drawings and instructions for this engine were published in a 1946 issue of Popular Mechanics magazine, and Coles Power Models offered casting kits until 2006, when the company was sold and relocated to Texas. The engine features a 1-inch bore and a 3/4-inch stroke, with the piston operating within a cast iron sleeve encased in an aluminum cylinder. Spark ignition is achieved through a WilCo model airplane coil, two D cell batteries, and a points set from a 1977 GM V-8....

    ❤ thank you for the tip, that was very useful. I am following a drawing i bought from Woodcrafters. The only problem I had is it was saying use a # 10 screw with 3/8 inch copper tubing. That was too loose. I am now using plastic 3/8 inch pvc line. Had to use a 1/4 inch drill to open up the inside diameter then using 1/4x20 bolts. I like your idea better ill give that a shot next.

    I downloaded the plans for this several years ago but have never built it. Now I'm getting interested again. I really like your idea for the adjustable valve throw. I'll probably use a cast iron dolly wheel for the flywheel. another interesting variation would be to use a piece of Lucite or some other transparent plastic for the cylinder, maybe with a Teflon or Delrin piston.

    • @gwheyduke
      @gwheyduke Месяц назад

      You can make a propeller hub using a hand saw and a miter box it will work. The slots for your blades don't have to be a perfect angle, it will still work ok. Starting with Square hubs make it easier to cut the slots by hand.

Another issue I'm having is, I'm using 1/8 for my whirlygig blades. With one saw blade the slot it too small with 2 the slot is too big. How are you getting such a good fit? Thanks in advance. Love your video

    • @gwheyduke
      @gwheyduke Месяц назад

      Getting the hub slots the exact size can be difficult. You can try different saw blades. Some are thicker than others. Some builders stack two blades together to form a specific thickness dado cut. Another trick is to simply run the hub through the saw blade multiple times to open it up.

    The jig appears to make two different angles, at the first station , and thenecr to last station, counting from the operator's position. Is that correct?

    • @gwheyduke
      @gwheyduke Месяц назад

      Yes, that correct. With 6 cutting stations, the result is 3 hubs for each opposite spinning direction. The angled cross boards are simply supports for the hub blanks. You could install more with a longer sled. With a little modification this method would also work for round hubs.

    Tell us how you made the jig for the hubs please

    • @gwheyduke
      @gwheyduke 2 месяца назад

      The cutting jig for the wing hubs is simply a small table saw sled (16" long by 13" wide) made of 1/2" plywood. The 5 miter gage boards in the inside are 3/4" by 2 1/2 " set at 35 Degree angle to the center line (where the blade comes up in the middle). 7/8" hub blanks are clamped vertically to the 6 stations directly over the blade. It helps to glue a vertical support to hold the blanks (90 degrees) up right. You have to make two passes with each set of hubs. ( One one on each end of the blanks and of course you must flip them over after the first cut while being careful to keep them oriented the same way as the first cut. ( don't accidently flip them around or you will have the slots in the same direction.) Here's the video - ruclips.net/video/FLTYotEvtOY/видео.html

    • @gwheyduke
      @gwheyduke 2 месяца назад

      Great question! I use a benchtop drill press to make sure the hole is 90 degrees to the center line of the whirligig body or base. It's best to drill it before painting, that way you can draw a centerline through the main part of the body, then I clamp the body to a machinist's 90-degree angle plate, you could use a carpenter square and a block of wood to hold it straight while you drill the pivot hole bearing hole.
